Fauna & Flora

The unspoilt Western Cape coastline plays host to an abundance of animal and marine life. Shelley Bay, in particular, is renowned for the diversity of wildlife in its lush surroundings and clear waters.

  • Crayfish, Abalone, and White and Black Mussels in abundance

  • Schools of Dolphins

  • Whales for most of the year (including mates, and mothers with calves)

  • Black Cormorants (Swart Duiker), which migrate around Shelley Point every morning and evening

  • Hundreds of different bird species, including endangered Oystercatchers (Swarttobie) and other rare birds

  • Shoals of Galjoen, Harders and Snoek(4 million caught every year)
