The cultural significance of Shelley Point

In centuries past, the calm waters of Shelley Point offered the perfect location for explorers to come ashore our otherwise rugged coastline. Vasco Da Gama was the first of these explorers to set foot on the South African coast at Shelley Point, opening the passage of trade to the East. To celebrate his discoveries, the Developers for Shelley Point Estate have erected a Vasco Da Gama museum. We believe this separates the Shelley Point Development from others, and adds to the unique charm and character of the development.

In addition to the museum, a statue of Vasco Da Gama can be found in the centre of this luxury Peninsula Estate. Another statue is located at the actual spot where he came ashore.
